A BRIEF SUMMARY OF OUR ZOOM PARENT MEETING ON AUGUST 17:
Our request for an exception was denied by the DOE, as were those submitted by many other schools. It is important to the DOE to ensure that student whose parents wish them to attend school in-person have the opportunity.
A sufficient number of parents have opted for full time remote learning so that we can fit the blended learning students in the building according to the DOE guidelines.
If blended learning is for you, then stay with it. If, after the discussion, you determine that fully remote learning is best, then you can still opt for it by going to the DOE's website and enrolling: https://www.nycenet.edu/surveys/learningpreference If that is your choice, please do so as soon as possible so that we can make our schedule in a timely and effective way.
We will be using the DOE's Model 3A. Students will be divided into four groups, A, B, C, and D. D is fully remote. The remaining students in each class will be evenly divided among groups A, B, and C.
Students in groups A, B, and C will attend in-person every fourth day, while students in Group D will be fully remote.
Remote students (including those on remote for the day) will attend online with the rest of the class according to the school schedule.
Mr. Randle will post the DOE's description of Model 3A and our tentative schedule on the website, www.academyofamericanstudies.com. It should be up by the end of the day on the 18th.
Parents can use the link on the Academy website to move from blended to remote at any time. It is not possible at this point to move from remote to blended. Parents will have the opportunity in the middle of October to move from remote to blended for a November start date.
Many details still remain unsettled between the DOE and the unions; we are awaiting direction on these issues from the DOE, but we felt that it was better to create a structured plan for the opening of school and then to make adjustments as more information is released from the DOE.
Everything is fluid and can change hourly. Everything that we decide for our school is subject to final review and decisions and direction from the DOE. We are committed to keeping everyone up to date through emails and phone calls and website postings.
Please feel free to write to Mr. Bassell with any questions you might have. He will respond within two days. His email is email@example.com
PLEASE RELAX AND STAY CALM AND PATIENT! WE WILL MAKE THIS WORK!!!
